Former chief minister and senior congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal accused the Badal government of mismanagement of funds, referring to the Centre's reprimand of the Punjab government's Rs 42,000-crore dues of previous cash credit limits (CCLs) received for procuring food grains.
In a statement issued here on Friday, Bhattal said the Akalis's claim that a BJP government at the Centre would bring economic prosperity was turning out to be false.
She said, "Punjab's famers have been made to suffer immensely due to the government's mismanagement. Earlier also, the Centre delayed the CCL for paddy."
She held that the current government had no control over the administration, and pointed out that dealers were forcing farmers to buy additional items along with urea bags.
She said reports from across the state mentioned that farmers were forced to buy inferior-quality super manure, cattle feed costing Rs 500-700, additional pesticides along with urea.
She also alleged that the urea shortage was created by dealers in the lack of action by the Badal government.
Highlighting the delay in payment of farmers for paddy procurement, erratic supply of urea, non-payment to labourers, forced buying of additional items, Bhattal said the government failed to deal with major issues.
