Bhola drug racket: CPS Avinash Chander appears before ED

Chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) Avinash Chander was questioned for seven hours by officials of the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the multi-crore Bhola drug racket here on Thursday.

Chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) Avinash Chander was questioned for seven hours by officials of the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the multi-crore Bhola drug racket here on Thursday.

CPS’s brother Steven Kaler also reached the ED office at 3pm and was being questioned by officials till the filing of this report. Congress workers also arrived outside the ED office as the CPS reached there and raised slogans against him. Assistant commissioner of police (central) Dev Dutt Sharma, Navi Baradari SHO Balwinder Singh Virk and a police team were present there.

The ED has been investigating Chander’s alleged relationship with Goraya-based businessman Chunni Lal Gaba, an accused in the case, whose properties worth Rs 80 crore have already been attached by the ED. The probe is focusing on the diary recovered by the income tax department from Gaba in which a few “prominent entries” have been found in the SAD MLA’s name.
