Rakesh Kumar Tony, one of the prime accused in the murder of BJP worker and jeweller Vinod Kumar (35), a resident of Mohindru Mohalla, surrendered before the deputy commissioner of police on Tuesday evening.
Tony was in hiding since September 28, when the dead body of Vinod was recovered from the open ground of Old Central Mill on the Railway Road near Domoria railway over bridge. Vinod was BJP secretary of ward 27 and was close to chief parliamentary secretary Krishan Dev Bhandari.
Two other assailants - Jasmel Singh, a constable with the Jalandhar Railway Protection Force, and Jaspal Singh, alias Raju - were arrested on the same day. Both are now in Kapurthala jail.
Police were raiding various hideouts of the accused and pressure was mounting on Tony to surrender. The police said that Tony was operating a 'parcel mafia' at city railway station for the past few decades and had good links with traders.
Vinod was hacked to death by the three after they had an altercation while gambling in the railway station. He owned a jewellery shop in Jua Khana Market.
