BKU district senior vice-president Roop Singh Chhanna, said on the one one hand the government is claiming of surplus power and exporting power to other countries but in Punjab farmers are crying for 8-hour power supply.

Regarding the agitation of Bhagwant Mann in support of the power supply to farmers, Channa said, "All political parties are alike. He had promised escalated action in 24 hours at a dharna at Shaina recently. If Mann was sincere, he could have come here to sit with us on the dharna or could have done something for us on his own."

"Our MPs and MLAs have no time for farmers. They are interested onl;y in holding meetings," Channa added.

BKU's block cashier Jarnail Singh Jawandha said, "When there is a major fault in any transformer or if it gets burnt, PSPCL compels us to get it replaced from Bathinda or Sangrur, instead of Barnala only.

"It takes diesel worth `600 to irrigate an acre of land with a generator. It is suicidal for farmers to spend so much," Jawandha said.

Local MLA, Kewal Singh Dhillon, said he was in a meeting at Punjab Bhawan.

Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann said he was at a meeting with Parshant Bhushan.
