Though its licence expired six months ago, no inspection has been carried out to renew the document, a mandatory condition before the document could be renewed. The licence granted to blood bank expired in December 2012. When contacted, blood transfusion officer of the centre Dr Tajinder Pal Singh that a team had conducted an inspection of blood bank in February 2013, after they had applied for renewal. However, he could not explain the reason for the delay in renewal of the document.

CHC senior medical officer Dr Renu Sood said that the inspection of the blood bank by an expert team from the centre was yet to be conducted.

On being informed that the deadline for licence renewal was about to end this Sunday, she said she would arrange for a team to be sent immediately for inspection. She evaded a direct reply to the query that if the licence was not renewed in time, will the facility be shut down.
Civil surgeon Dr Dharam Pal feigned ignorance and said that he would be able to comment only after checking the documents. He asked the reporter to contact the drug inspector.
