It may be recalled that Pawan Dhawan (50), chief inspector at the loco unit of the local divisional railway manager's office; his wife Neelam (47); son Nishant (15); daughter Mauli (10); his childhood friend and colleague Sanjeev Beri (49), inspector, loco unit; his wife Bharti (45); son Ashu (22); and daughter Aashnaa (18) were going to Darjeeling for a holiday.

On Monday night, the two families boarded Punjab Mail from Ferozepur and later Rajdhani Express from New Delhi to reach their destination. But the train met with an accident at Chhapra on Tuesday night.

Pawan, Neelam and Bharti Beri died on the spot while five members of the families were injured.
