BPL families cheated in land scam

Members of families falling under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category complained that they were duped by persons under the pretext of arranging free lands from the Punjab government.

Members of families falling under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category complained that they were duped by persons under the pretext of arranging free lands from the Punjab government.

In their complaints to senior superintendent of police (SSP), the families alleged that Rahtriya Krantikari Samajwadi Party leader Karnail Singh along with his aides Paramjit Singh, Baljit Kaur and Karamjit Kaur had taken amounts ranging between `250-5000 from many BPL families for paper work required to secure a free, two-biswa plot for from the state government, each applicant.

Geeta, Sarita, Sunita, Kajal, Seeta Devi and other complaints, who are residents of Gobind Nagar in Khanna, alleged that the accused took money from them in January 2014, but had not replied about the status of the plots.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that accused Karnail Singh was already facing charges of cheating in Khanna. However, the accused denied allegations and said that they were being framed by some politicians.

Following a series of complaints, SSP Harsh Bansal directed the superintendent of police (Detective) to conduct an inquiry.
