Tradition has it that men ride the horse in a marriage to receive their better halves, as custom endow males with a sense of responsibility elusive hitherto for their female counterparts.
But this girl from Haryana seems to have broken the stereotypes associated with marriage when she rode her way on a mare to marry her prince charming.
Challenging the orthodoxy, Mugdha of Roopgarh village of Hisar rode the mare in her marriage rituals (ghurchadi) on Thursday. A legal probationary officer at Rewari, Mughda married army captain Pawan Yadav of Chandanwas Khera village here.
Her father Jagdish Chand was visibly elated at the feat. "I have brought her up like a son only. I am proud at her decision of riding a mare at her nuptial ceremonies as I am confident she is capable enough to shoulder all the responsibilities that are otherwise associated to only a man."
"My father treats girls and boys alike and has always supported me. All the villagers have hailed the new beginning made by me and my father,"said Mugdha, adding, "Time has come to rise above the parochial mentality."
