The state government is busy showcasing its feats of providing world-class roads in the state through advertisements. But the muddy and broken Kanganwal Road in ward 75 of the municipal corporation (MC) narrates an altogether different tale.
The road that leads to Kanganwal and Jaspal Bangar villages and other areas has not been reconstructed for past 15 years, panchayat members of Kanganwal village claimed.
The area of Kanganwal village falls under Sahnewal constituency, while the road falls under the jurisdiction of MC.
Residents said if the deputy chief minister is really concerned about development; our area should also be connected with good roads.
“Our guests avoid visiting our village due to poor condition of roads. During monsoon roads become slippery, and it becomes difficult to walk,” said Mohinder Singh Grewal of Kanganwal.
Potholes on the roads often lead to mishaps, but the MC has failed to pay any attention to the problem despite repeated requests of residents and industrialists. This road also leads to a large number of industries.
Cabinet minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon had also assured to get the road constructed but to no avail. Some years ago, bricks were installed on the road, but the road got damaged within a month, as heavy trucks pass through the road daily,” said Kanganwal sarpanch Jaswinder Singh Brar. “The MC has failed to provide the basic amenities to the industries despite the fact that they pay huge amount of tax to the government.”

MC commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said the finance and contract committee (F&CC) has approved an estimate of Rs 4.5 crore for construction of the road. The tender to construct Ready-mix concrete (RMC) road will be floated next week.”
