The value of the contraband on the international market is estimated to be `35 crore. Briefing the media here on Wednesday, BSF deputy inspector general (Amritsar sector) MF Farooqui said the jawans on duty at night had noticed three or four men moving into the Indiam territory from Pakistan and trying to push a pipe through the security fence to slip in the heroin packets.

The BSF opened fire, forcing the intruders to retreat to Pakistan. They fired a couple of shots in the direction of the BSF troops. At daybreak, the force seized seven packets of heroin, each weighing 1-kg, in a combing operation on the spot.

The Border Security Force (BSF) has, so far, seized 142-kg heroin from the Punjab border this year.
