Besides, a magazine of assault rifle, 18 rounds, a Pakistan-made mobile phone, two Pakistani SIM cards and 40 grams of opium were also seized by the BSF men.

Addressing mediapersons at a press conference, Punjab Frontier inspector general Aditya Mishra said, "Since the BSF was already on alert, a movement of three smugglers was spotted on the Pakistani side. Two of them came near the border security fence and were observed inserting pipe into it whereas the third one remained behind."

Reacting to this, a BSF party challenged the smugglers to surrender. However, two smugglers continued to insert pipe whereas the third one fired towards the BSF party. BSF jawans also retaliated. However, miscreants escaped taking advantage of the dark and fully-grown paddy crops. Thereafter, a search was launched and the seizure was made," added Mishra. "We are very alert and each input coming on a smuggling bid is being followed," said Mishra.
