Giving details, Punjab Frontier IG Aditya Mishra said, "In the wee hours of Tuesday, the BSF troops deployed at the BOP observed two to three people moving suspiciously in front of the border security fence.

When the troops challenged the smugglers, the suspects went back to the Pakistani side. After this, a comprehensive search operation was launched and 18 packets of contraband and a packet of fake currency were recovered from near the fence, claimed the IG.

The seized notes were in the denomination of Rs 1,000, the BSF said.

The BSF intends to lodge a protest with Pakistan and also conduct a flag meeting with the Pakistani Rangers.

IG Mishra said that keeping in view the vulnerability of the border, operational guidelines have been issued to further strengthen border domination in order to effectively check smuggling.
