Worried about the shifting of the traditional vote bank to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), on Sunday, organised a state-level rally in Sangrur to mark the birth anniversary of party founder Kanshi Ram.

Led by the BSP’s state president Avtar Singh Karimpuri, party workers also took out a protest march against the government’s failure to curb the drug menace in the state and also launched a Punjab Bachao campaign.

Earlier, addressing the gathering, Karimpuri lauded the efforts of Kanshi Ram saying, “Kanshi Ram had worked hard and fought for the rights of the dalits and the poor.”

It is only because of the efforts of Kanshi Ram that the poor and the dalits are able to raise their voice in Parliament and assemblies of the states,” said Karimpuri, adding, “People of Punjab should get united to save Punjab from the drug menace, and we should strengthen the party before the assembly elections”.

He also appealed to the people to join the BSP’s campaign against the drug menace.

“The anti-people polices of the SAD-BJP government have pushed Punjab far behind and now the state is debt-ridden,” he said adding, “Poor people are becoming the victim of wrong policies of both the state and Union governments, and even MGNREGA workers have been waiting for their salaries for a long time. This needs to change”
