The anti-narcotic wing of Ludhiana police on Thursday arrested a BTech girl student for drug peddling.
Accused Sarbjit Kaur, a resident of Ladhowal village, was nabbed with 50 gm heroin, valued at Rs 25 lakh in the international market, from Talwandi village following a tip-off.
A case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered against the accused, a student of Ludhiana college of Engineering, Chowkiman.
During questioning, the girl told the police that she lost her father around a year ago. She said that since she is eldest among the six siblings, she took the responsibility of bringing up of her four sisters and a brother. As she had no other resource of income, she indulged in drug peddling, she added.
Sub-inspector Harbans Singh, in-charge, anti narcotic wing, said the accused revealed that she used to procure narcotics from Nikka, a resident of Talwandi, and used to sell it among drug addicts at higher price.
He said the father of the accused was also a drug peddler and he was booked in a case. Her mother is a house wife.

The accused was produced in a local court, which remanded her in judicial custody.
