"In an attempt to monopolise the cable operations, Fastway company is harassing the small cable operators by threatening to slap false cases against them, if they do not toe the line of the company," general secretary of Jalandhar Cable Welfare Society Ranjeet Singh Oberoi said.

Alleging that Fastway was virtually looting the public by charging Rs 300 per month from the customers, apart from charging Rs 700 for installing the digital box, Oberoi said that small cable operators were providing the cable services to its customers for Rs 100 per month, Oberoi said. He further alleged that henchman of Fastway company were damaging the cables of small operators to harass them.

"We have recently met union minister for information and broadcasting Ambika Soni, who gave a patient hearing to our grievances and assured a high level probe into the metter," Oberoi said, adding that Soni assured that no company would be allowed to create a monopoly in any state.

"Digital boxes have made mandatory for customers of four metro cities only in the first phase, there is no plan to execute the plan in Punjab so far. Fastway company, in the garb of government order, is pressuring the customers to install the box immediately," Oberoi said.
