In its recent series, 'Cancer of corruption', Hindustan Times had highlighted discrepancies in the implementation of the scheme.

Mohindra said the state machinery had failed to implement the scheme properly. "I request the CM to order a CAG or SIT (special investigation team) probe into the matter so that the anomalies can be identified and checked." He added that a high-level probe would also detect wrong empanelment of hospitals and their malpractices.

Mohindra had submitted a written question on the cancer relief fund during the Punjab assembly's budget session last month. Though the Congress had boycotted the session, state health minister Madan Mohan Mittal had replied that Rs 75.13 crore were distributed among 6,924 patients till February 2013.
