At a time when the Congress high command in Delhi is keen to solve the leadership issue in Punjab so as to put an end to the Amarinder-Bajwa feud, the Amritsar MP is treading a cautious path to avoid any direct confrontation with the Punjab Congress chief.

This became clear when the former chief minister Amarinder decided against holding rallies on Rakhar Purnima (August 29) and Gurtta Gaddi Divas of Guru Angad Dev on October 2-events in Majha during which all leading political parties hold their rallies.

PPCC to hold conferences

Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa will hold conferences on both occasions. The state Congress will try to transport as many people as is possible to the two places.

“As has been the custom, no separate invites are being sent. All are invited to the two conferences, which have the sanction of the party high command,” Bajwa said when asked if the Amritsar MP was being invited.

Former MLA Jasbir Singh Dimpa is in charge of the event at Baba Bakala. Even when Amarinder was the state Congress chief, Dimpa used to organise the Rakhar Purnima rallies. However, he has now moved over to the Bajwa camp.

Capt camp rallies

The Amarinder camp may give the two occasions a skip but it will ensure the presence of the former CM in Majha in September.

Amarinder will address a rally at Baba Bakala on September 10 after going to Khemkaran on September 9.
