Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Capt Amarinder Singh, on Sunday, warned the Akalis against using "arm-twisting" tactics against Congressmen to make them join the SAD.

Addressing a party rally on the concluding day of the Chhapar fair, Amarinder said SAD leaders were mistaken if they thought they could weaken the Congress with such ploys.

"The way ministers are being made to resign over criminal offences and corruption, it will not be surprising if this government falls under its own weight," he said.

Lashing out at the state government for its "failure" to fulfil even one promise it had made before the elections, the state Congress chief said, "It has not lived up to its promise of providing laptops to government school students and unemployment allowance."

Criticising the stand taken by the SAD leadership on the issue of FDI in multi-brand retail, Amarinder said while chief minister Parkash Singh Badal was opposing the move, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had initially supported it.

Accusing the SAD top brass of grabbing all plum ministries, Amarinder said that out of 50 ministerial portfolios, 29 were with members of one family.

Ludhiana MP Manish Tewari asked the CM and his son to clarify their stand on FDI.
