Leaders and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday staged a protest at Rampura city police station against registration of a case against party leader Manjit Singh Sidhu, who unsuccessfully contested as a party candidate from Rampura Phul assembly segment, in the recently held assembly elections.
AAP MP from Faridkot Lok Sabha segment Professor Sadhu Singh, newly elected MLAs including Jagdev Singh Kamalu, Rupinder Kaur Ruby, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Baldev Singh and Manjit Singh Bilaspur took part in the protest that lasted for over two hours.
Besides Sidhu, the protest was also joined by the party candidates, who unsuccessfully contested assembly polls, including Deepak Bansal and Jagsir Singh. Later, party leaders also met Bathinda SSP Swapan Sharma in this regard.
“I had gone to inquire about the health of the wife of our party worker, who was pregnant and was allegedly beaten up by Congress workers. The Congress worker, who has lodged a complaint, met me in the street, he lived in the same locality. He was not beaten up,” he said.
Sidhu, along with AAP workers Pawan Kumar and his son Sahil Kumar, Inderjit Singh, Umesh Garg, Nonu Bhalla and eight unidentified people have been booked under sections 452 (house trespass), 323 (voluntary causing hurt), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) of IPC at Rampura City police station.

{{/usCountry}}The accused allegedly entered the house of former AAP worker Jaskaran Bansal on Monday and beat him up. After have been denied the AAP ticket from Rampura Phul assembly segment, Bansal had quit party and joined the Congress before the assembly polls.
Police have also registered a case against Jaskaran Bansal and Ashoki Ambika on the complaint of Meetu Rani, wife of accused Sahil Kumar, under sections 323 (voluntary causing hurt) of IPC as they allegedly beat her up. Meanwhile, the SSP said that a case against Manjit has been registered on merit on the basis of video evidence.
