CBSE to hold math Olympiad on Dec 7

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will organise Group Mathematical Olympiad on December 7. With this programme, the board aims to strengthen the knowledge of students, enhance their innate problem solving skills and identify talent at the young age.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will organise Group Mathematical Olympiad on December 7. With this programme, the board aims to strengthen the knowledge of students, enhance their innate problem solving skills and identify talent at the young age.

The circular by the board states that any student from Classes 9 to 11 can participate and the last date to send entries is November 5.

A school can sponsor maximum five students for the competition and students should be selected strictly on the basis of a screening test conducted by the school itself.

A maximum number of 30 students from the CBSE Group are selected strictly in order of merit to participate in Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) conducted by National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM). Selection at national level leads to participation at the international mathematical Olympiad.

The objectives of conducting mathematical Olympiad is identifying talent in mathematics, providing opportunities to young and talented students to solve challenging problems in mathematics, promoting excellence in mathematics and encouraging talented students to pursue careers in the fields related to mathematics.

The question paper will be made available in English medium and candidates are also required to answer in English only. The duration of the examination will be 3 hours (1:00 pm to 4:00 pm).
