In the third phase of the special drive against speeding and drink driving on Ferozepur Road on Friday late, the police issued a total of 60 challans to the violators. Three persons, including son of a police inspector, were also challaned for misusing beacons.
As part of the drive, police found more incidence of putting red and blue beacons on the roof of vehicles, especially by the relatives of police officials and politicians.
The district transport officer (DTO) Anil Kumar Garg said, “The police slammed a challan on a bus of Orbit Transport Company, owned by Badal clan, for overloading and tinted glasses.”
“The bus driver dialled a number from his mobile phone and asked the officials to talk, but I and police officials stopped him, and refused to take the call and slammed a challan,” he said.
He said, “Another challan was issued to a vehicle bearing a plate of vice-chairman, All India Powerloom Board, ministry of textile, that was sporting a read beacon, which is not allowed.”
“Similarly, another car being driven by son of inspector Wariyam Singh from CIA staff of Jagraon was having a blue beacon without any authority. As the police stopped him, he tried to influence the officials saying that he was the son of an inspector. Meanwhile, inspector Wariyam Singh also reached the spot. The police officials allowed him to go, but when people present on the spot raised objections, the officials called the inspector and his son, and issued a challan for misusing of beacon,” the DTO said.

{{/usCountry}}He said, “Another vehicle having a blue beacon managed to flee from the spot, but the number of car was noted. Records revealed that the car belonged to Jasvir Kaur, a resident of Lal Bagh Colony on Ferozepur Road. The DTO said they had issued a challan and sent it to the owner’s
house.”
Garg said, “In all 60 challans were issued including 18 for black films, two for overloading, two for drink driving, three for using beacons and others for not possessing proper documents.”
