The Himachal Pradesh director general of police (DGP), Sanjay Kumar, on Tuesday said the situation was peaceful and at Chamba border adjoining the state of Jammu and Kashmir and the state police was well equipped to handle any situation along 214 kilometers.
“The situation on Himachal side is peaceful and across the border,” said Kumar on the sidelines of inauguration function of 47th Himachal Pradesh Police sports and duty meet that began here.
“There is a sense of security among the locals near to border and our force continuously interacts with them,” added Kumar.
He added that the patrolling was done regularly along the border and the force had been located strategically so that any bid of infiltration could be foiled.
“However, there is no chance of infiltration from across the border and the state also shares intelligence information with the security agencies deployed on the other sides,” said Kumar, adding that, so far, no activity had been detected in the border region of Jammu and Kashmir adjoining the Chamba district.
The DGP said the state police force, deployed on the border, was well equipped and efficient enough to handle any emergency situation. On burgeoning drug trade in the region, Kumar said Himachal Pradesh police was working in coordination with neighbouring state of Punjab to curtail the drug trafficking and it had proved quite successful.

{{/usCountry}}“We have increased force in the narcotic cell of the state police and are working in coordination with Punjab police to check the menace,” said Kumar. He added that the state police shared information about activities and movement of drug cartels in the region and this had helped in curbing the drug paddling manifolds.
“In recent past, we have successfully busted the drug mafia ring having links in Himachal and other neighbouring states,” said the DGP. Replying to another query on foreigners residing in the hills state illegally, Kumar said the state police carried out special drive from time to time against those who had been staying in Himachal for long without valid documents.
“The central government is also coming out with a smart system very soon to tackle the situation, which will make it easier to keep a check on the foreigners,” said Kumar.
