Day’s temperature in the city will continue to rise with mercury level soaring to 37.8 degrees on Friday, stated the Chandigarh meteorological department. However, there will some respite from the scorching heat as the weatherman has predicted cloudy weekend with possibility of light rain.
The forecast given on the weather website predicts possibility of thundery development and cloudy sky for the next three days. It has already issued a warning for the region, which reads, “Dust storm/thunderstorm accompanied with squall (with speed exceeding 45 km per hour) likely at isolated places in Haryana and Punjab on April 16-17.
Director of the UT meteorological department Surender Paul said, “Next week, there will be western disturbances in the north (Chandigarh, Punjab, and Haryana), which will cause light rainfall in some parts and sky will remain cloudy. It will also lead to slight dip in day’s temperature. However, in the subsequent weeks, the temperature will gradually increase.”
He said heat wave conditions will prevail in the region by the end of this month or in the beginning of May.
The maximum temperature recorded in the city on April 15 was 37. 8° and it was 3° above normal. It was slightly more in comparison to Thursday, when the temperature was 37.4°. The minimum temperature was 18.8° and it was one degree above normal. Same temperature of 37.8° was recorded on April 25 last year and the maximum temperature was as high as 39.2° on April 30, 2014. The highest temperature recorded so far in April was 43.2 degrees in 2010.
