Traffic chaos prevailed for more than two hours on Friday on Ferozepur road due to deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal's visit to Ludhiana, as ruling Shiromani Akali Dal rank and file along with bureaucrats rushed to the venue to pay obeisance to the visiting dignitary.
It was not only the VIP movement on the Ferozepur Road, but also the ongoing Kisan Mela at Punjab Agricultural University that created traffic bottlenecks for the common man. Diversion of traffic from Ferozepur road to BRS Nagar and Sarabha Nagar only aggravated the situation as jams were witnessed on internal roads as well. Heavy vehicles like buses and trucks added to the bottlenecks on Jawaddi and Sarabha Nagar bridges, causing inconvenience to people.
After the election of Ludhiana MC mayor, SAD leadership that included irrigation minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon, PWD minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, CM's advisor Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal, MLAs Manpreet Singh Ayali, Darshan Singh Shivalik, SR Kaler, Balwinder Singh Bains, Simranjit Singh Bains, Ranjit Singh Dhillon and district president Hira Singh Gabria along with their respective cavalcades rushed to Kingsville resort where the SAD president had gone to attend the wedding of daughter of a close associate.
"I was to perform a caesarean but was stuck in traffic jam near Jawaddi bridge for more than an hour and a half. There was not a single policeman to manage traffic moving from all sides. The bottleneck was caused mainly because of heavy traffic diversion from Ferozepur road," said a senior doctor who along with another medico was stuck in the jam for an hour.
