Chemists called offstrike on Day three

The Ludhiana Retail Chemists Association, protesting against the arrest of two store owners for allegedly running shops without required qualification, called off their strike on Monday afternoon following a meeting with the Ludhiana District Chemists Association.

The Ludhiana Retail Chemists Association, protesting against the arrest of two store owners for allegedly running shops without required qualification, called off their strike on Monday afternoon following a meeting with the Ludhiana District Chemists Association.

However, many stores remain closed till the Monday afternoon, the Day three of the strike.

Amandeep Ahuja, president of the Ludhiana Retail Chemists Association, said many druggists participated in the strike till the afternoon; however, they called off strike following the assurance that police would not harass them.

He said the chemists were being harassed by police teams during raids at various stores, following which they had decided not to sale habit forming drugs.

The association works for the betterment of the chemists, hence it would not allow them to adopt any unlawful means, he added.

Tikka Dalip Singh, president of the District Chemists Association, said we assured the chemists that police would not harass them, and advised them to keep their shops open.
