The residents of Doraha are demanding the cleaning of Ganda Nullah near railway road market, which gives the area a shoddy look.
The people want the municipal council to work in this direction on priority basis after the declaration of results of polls, which will be held soon.
The Ganda Nullah was used as an alternate to sewerage until five months ago before it was clogged by weed and mud, leading to a permanent blockage.
According to the area residents, the situation here at the market area is worsening with every passing day as more and more water is getting accumulated, making the surrounding unhygienic. The situation in summers would become unbearable, they say.
60-year-old Nirmal Singh, president of the taxi union at the main market, said, "We approached the concerned authorities several times in the past but to no avail. They keep on making excuses, resulting in a delay in action."Singh said last time when the authorities were approached, they were told to wait for some more time until the election process gets completed.

{{/usCountry}}Satnam Singh, a shopkeeper in the railway road market, said, "In order to win our trust, the candidates in the council come up with a huge list of development works and make towering claims of turning the council into mini California but when it comes to ground reality, it entirely depicts a different picture which lay bare their shallow promises."
He said that the council for the last five years has been giving fake assurances.
When contacted, Doraha council president Inderjeet Singh Kala said, "Indeed the issue of sewerage remains our priority and if voted to power, the cleaning of the nullah will be done in a timebound manner."On being asked as to why the work was lying pending for so long, Kala replied that the road work at the southern bypass area caused the heavy blockage in the drain which would be cleared once the project gets completed.
