The Haryana government on Wednesday picked up its loyalists as the commissioners of the state information commission (SIC) and the Right to Service Commission (RTSC). The move comes three days ahead of governor Jagannath Pahadia’s retirement and a couple of months before the assembly elections in the state. Pahadia is scheduled to retire on July 26 while the polls are due in October.
The selection committee, headed by chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, met on Wednesday and okayed names of the RTSC chief commissioner and four commissioners, besides three SICs, which were sent to the governor for approval.
Chief secretary SC Choudhary, who retires on July 31, was named as the RTS chief commissioner, while three of the four RTS commissioners are: IAS officer Sarban Singh, Lt Gen VS Tonk (retd) and senior deputy advocate general, Haryana, Sunil Katyal.
Likewise, former IAS officer Shiv Raman Gaur, who is currently adviser to CM (health), advocate Amar Singh Chaudhry, husband of a judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court and Rekha, wife of Hooda’s political adviser, Prof Virender, were named as information commissioners.
The leader of the Opposition, Om Prakash Chautala, who is also a member of the committee, did not attend the meeting but flayed the appointments terming them as “adjustment of the government’s favourite few”.
Deputy principal secretary to chief minister, RS Doon, an IAS officer, has also been recommended for appointment as chairperson of state food commission under the National Food Security Act. Doon, who retires in March 2015, will seek voluntary retirement from service before his formal appointment.
