Behram polytechnic college could be forced to shelve or at the least delay the start of its classes at its new building as it is yet to get any 'formal approval' from the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
The college plans to start classes from July 15.
Four others colleges Bareta Government Polytechnic College, Shri Guru Hargobind Singh Sahib Government Polytechnic College, Ranwan (Fatehgarh Sahib), Sant Baba Attar Singh Government Polytechnic College, Badbar (Barnala) and Government Polytechnic College, Begowal (Kapurthala) are also AICTE letter of approval.
The AICTE has recently given nod to Government Polytechnic College, Fatuhikhera (Muktsar) and Government Polytechnic College, Kotkapura. However, even here a formal notification is pending.
Sources said that chief minister Parkash Singh Badal with former technical education and Industrial training minister Sawrna Ram along with son Ch. Mohan Lal, who was then Banga MLA, had laid the foundation stone of the building of the Behram College on January 28, 2012. The complete was completed late in 2012 at a cost of Rs 8 crore.
Students at the institutes are, at present, enrolled at mentor institutes and have to commute a lot.

{{/usCountry}}College sources added that AICTE officials had conducted an inspection in February and March and expressed satisfaction over the facilites offered. They added that even the staff had been hired and the institute management was in a dilemma on whether to start classes or not.
Punjab technical education director B Purushartha said: "The AICTE have given permission to run classes from new seven polytechnic colleges. However, we have written to them to send us name-wise details of institutions that have been given the nod to rule out any confusion. As soon as we get the list, classes will be started and students would be saved a lot of commuting."
