Authorities of the SGPC-run Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College have identified a man arrested by Mandi police in Himachal Pradesh on Sunday for his alleged involvement in the supply of fake currency.
Sources said that the accused Jodhvir Singh was a BTech student in the college, but had been suspended in 2010.
College principal Lakhwinder Singh said that Singh, a resident of Chanarthal Kalan village in Fatehgarh Sahib district, was enrolled in the college in 2008 in BTech (Industrial Engineering) under the management quota, but did not score well.
Though he was supposed to graduate in 2012, he did not return to the college after his suspension.
"Police have not contacted us to get details about him yet. We have identified Singh on the basis of media reports, but could not collect details about others involved in the case due to incomplete information," he added.
Mandi police had arrested four people, including Halotali village resident Sandeep Singh, 22; Jodhvir, 22; Amandeep Singh from Ali Nangal in Gurdaspur; and a 22-year-old woman from Chamkaur Sahib in Rupnagar; near Pandoh on Sunday, and had recovered fake Indian currency amounting to Rs 72,500.
After their arrest, the accused were presented in court and remanded in police custody till September 7.
