Batting for 20 teachers of BIS Adarsh School at Manawan village, who were recently shown the door at the completion of their one-year contract, former Akali minister and now senior Congress leader Inderjeet Singh Zira led a group of about 200 students to stage a protest outside the office of Moga deputy commissioner, demanding that the teachers should be given back their jobs.
He also alleged that school management was declining admission to students.The students staged a sit-in outside the DC office as Zira and Moga SSP Surjit Singh Grewal exchanged some hot words.
The management of the said school had relieved 20 teachers of their services a few months ago on completion of their contact period and fmade fresh appointments at all the 32 posts of teachers.
Zira accused the state government of failing to run the Adarsh schools properly. "We will continue to protest to safeguard the interests of staff and students. No doubt it is hot day, but students need to raise a voice for their rights and for getting justice," Zira said.
It may be mentioned here that over 500 students are on rolls at the BIS Adarsh School. Jasmail Singh Dhaliwal, chairman of BSI institutions, said, "When we conducted interviews for teachers' posts, we had asked these 20 twenty teachers to apply afresh, but they did not apply. So, we appointed new teachers. Zira is playing politics on the issue and exploiting innocent students."
Moga deputy commissioner Arahsdeep Singh Thind said that the administration had constituted a special committee for investigating the entire matter and all the issues had been resolved. "I have also ordered to the school management to not to decline admission to any student. Anybody found guilty of refusing admission will be dealt strictly," Thind said.
