The party leaders, including member of Parliament (MP) Ravneet Singh Bittu, MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu and others, conducted the cleanliness drive to awake the municipal corporation authorities and the state government and to ensure functioning of public transportation.

It has been learnt that parts of city buses are getting damaged as these have been not plying on roads since July. The MC had even floated tenders to invite new firm to operate and maintain these buses but the date for opening of bids kept on extending.

MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu said: “When the MC was plying these buses on roads, the city bus service was getting benefit. Even the MC has failed to resume the service. It is our responsibility to raise such issues. The government should provide quality transport system.”

The Congress leaders also accused the Punjab government of giving two hoots to hundreds of newly purchased buses.

They claimed that every objective of city bus service stood defeated with these buses becoming hunt for thieves and burglars as everyday unguarded buses were losing their parts.
