Addressing a big gathering at Prem Bagh Palace here in function that senior Akali leader Tejinder Pal Singh Sandhu had organised to honour the new members of the zila parishad and block samitis, Majithia asked all eight Congress MPs from Punjab, including three ministers, if they were asleep when their colleagues from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh secured special packages for their states.

"The Congress MPs are now lame ducks of Sonia Gandhi, as after the anointment of Narendra Modi (as the prime ministerial candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the public has made up its mind to overthrow the non-performing UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government in the coming elections," he said.

The role of Punjab's Congress MPs now was limited to issuing press statements, that too in Punjab only, said Majithia, adding that these leaders couldn't stand up for the state in Parliament.

"Show guts now when the UPA is about to extend the industrial concessions to the neighbouring states," he asked the Congress MPs.

The Punjab revenue minister said his government and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MPs would oppose the concessions. "Voters should pack up these liabilities in the coming general elections," he said, referring to the Congress MPs.
