“The BJP government will not show any negligence towards the health of the people of the state and will continue to work in the public interest,” he added in a release.

Stating that the announcement to set up a medical college at Bhiwani was made by the previous Congress government under a central scheme for upgrade of hospitals, Vij added that chief minister ML Khattar had requested the union health ministry to pursue the case, in writing.

Vij, in an attempt to wriggle out of the issue, claimed that he had only said the matter was not in his notice and that he had sought a report on the issue.

The background

It may be recalled that a war of words seemed to have started between Vij and former Congress MLA and former
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Ranbir Mahendra, the son of former chief minister Bansi Lal, after the former said that there was no proposal of any medical college in Bhiwani in his knowledge. On this Mahendra had claimed the minister would not be allowed entry in Bhiwani.

At this, former minister and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhry, the daughter-in-law of Bansi Lal, asked chief minister ML Khattar to restrain Vij from making such irresponsible statements. Choudhry and Mahendra both claim to be the political heirs of the legacy of Bansi Lal.
