Due to the large gathering of workers, commuters were stuck in traffic jams. The Congress leaders also criticised the bursting of crackers and jubilation when the world was mourning the carnage of over a hundred innocent children in Pakistan.

"It is very unfortunate that the youth wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is celebrating the appointment of its youth leader and hundreds of workers are welcoming him by bursting crackers, throwing traffic flow out of gear. The nation, right now, is reeling in shock over the massacre of innocent children in Pakistan," said Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon, former Faridkot MLA and general secretary of state Congress.

"The SAD has also failed to find a student leader for its wing. The youth wing coordinator has nothing to do with student life. Sukhbir Badal has fallen short of finding student leaders for his party," Dhillon added.

Romana said the programme was planned days in advance. "The killing of children in Pakistan is an unfortunate incident and we share the grief. But as the programme was pre-planned, we had to go ahead with it.
