While the District Congress Committee was completely missing from the scene, leaders belonging to the faction led by Amritsar MP and former chief minister Amarinder Singh set to hold a conference on their own.

Leaders belonging to the Captain group such as Patiala MLA and Amarinder’s wife Preneet Kaur, MLA Sanaur Lal Singh, Abohar MLA Sunil Jakhar, Gurdaspur District Congress Committee president and Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Hoshiarpur MLA Sham Sunder Arora, Mukerian MLA Rajnish Kumar, senior leader Mohinder Singh Kaypee are arriving at Khatkar Kalan to address rally.
Sources said not even a single meeting was held with Nawanshahr Congress workers to discuss the preparations for holding the conference.

District Congress president Dharam Pal Bangar, who owes loyalty to the Bajwa group, failed to hold meeting with party workers in the Banga constituency, which Khatkar Kalan village falls under. Party leaders from Banga owing allegiance to the Amarinder group were busy in preparations and held meetings with local workers.
