The leader of the protest, Dr Raj Kumar said that a large number of Congress candidates would have been elected, if the counting had been fair. He alleged that the government officials played in the hands of the ruling alliance and declared may losing SAD candidates as winners.

He alleged that in Barian Kalan zila parishad zone, the Congress nominee had won by four votes, but she was declared defeated by 10 votes.

"In Bhungrni also the officials played a partisan role. When our candidate polled 73 more votes than the SAD, the returning officer ordered re-totalling. When she again won by 20 votes, the officer ordered yet another re count and ultimately she was declared defeated by 4 votes," said Dr Raj.

The dharna was later lifted on the assurance of Garhshankar SDM Ranjit Kaur.
