The district Congress held a dharna outside district administrative complex on Friday in demand of vigilance inquiry into alleged scandal in Maqsudan to Suranussi road project.
Congress party member Bawa Henry, district Congress president Rajinder Beri, leader of opposition in municipal corporation Jalandhar (MCJ) Jagdish Raja and councillor Des Raj Jassal were present during the dharna along with party workers.
Heavy deployment of police was done outside the complex to restrict the members from entering inside. The barricades enraged the workers and it led to a scuffle between the police and party workers. The protest also resulted in traffic jam outside the complex and commuters were seen diverting their vehicles.
After the chaos, Bawa Henry entered the complex by scaling the wall. He was followed by Des Raj Jassal with around 30 other party workers.
After holding the dharna inside the complex for an hour, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Gurmeet Singh came and held a meeting with the members. Jassal said that their meeting with director general of police (DGP) Suresh Arora has been fixed for Monday.
The members have been alleging that on the road project, an estimate of more than `3 crore was passed by MCJ in 2011 but no work was started yet.
Jassal said he had raised the issue in house meetings and got a reply that the forest department had opposed the move to carry the project in that area. Even the contractor was given the payment without constructing any road.

{{/usCountry}}The leaders said that on Monday, a team comprising five members will visit SAS Nagar and demand vigilance probe into the matter.
Jagdish Raja said that they had already alerted the administration in a press conference organised a week ago that if no vigilance probe is initiated within a week, they will stage dharna.
Jassal said, “Now the MCJ has started road carpeting at `2.74 crore, alleging that it was a big scam which needed to be probed.
