Party candidate Gulshan Kumar Sarangal in ward number 45 withdrew his nomination papers at the last moment in support of SAD candidate and senior deputy mayor Kamaljit Singh Bhatia.

Further weakened by some candidates boycotting the elections and others filing incorrect nomination papers, Congress on Thursday held a meeting of its campaign committee to chalk out poll strategy for the future.

Secretary Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), Varinder Sharma said that the party has decided to conduct videography by itself on all polling booths under the corporation to check the highhandedness of the ruling alliance. The videography will be done by party candidates, he added.

The party will be forming a panel to find out the reasons behind Gulshan Kumar Sarangal's withdrawal of his nomination papers at the last moment paving the way for Bhatia to win the elections.

Congress will also raise the issue of the cancellation of nomination papers of two of its candidates from ward number 21. The returning officer cited technical reasons behind the cancellation.

Party has authorised chairman of Poll Campaign Committee and Kapurthala MLA, Rana Gurjit to talk to PPCC chief Captain Amarinder Singh to raise this issue.
