“There cannot be a ban on holding press conferences. This is akin to an emergency,” he said when he did address the reporters outside the venue, after persuasion from the gathering.

He scotched speculation that BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s wife Jashodaben had been kept in isolation at one of his ashrams in Rishikesh.

“Such suggestions are absurd. Jashodaben is not a terrorist or a criminal who needs to be kept hidden,” he said.

He alleged that the Congress was raking up the controversy on Modi’s wife. “Rahul Gandhi is leading a bachelor life out of compulsion. He wants to marry a foreigner, but her mother feels that it will come in the way of his becoming the prime minister,” he alleged.

“I have not even given a single rupee to the BJP. The Congress should produce evidence to back its claim that Modi is using black money in his election campaign and take action,” he claimed.

“The Congress is a den of cor ruption. Rahul Gandhi is reaping what his grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru had sowed,” he alleged. He, however, refused to comment on AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.
