A Punjab police constable deployed with the CIA staff in Hoshiarpur committed suicide by firing on his temple with the service revolver of his senior in the washroom of the All Indian Radio regional station near BMC Chowk here on Thursday morning.
The victim, Ravinder Kumar (28), a resident of Nainowal Jatta village in Hoshiarpur district, had come to Jalandhar with assistant sub-inspector Amarjeet Malhi from Hoshiarpur where both were deployed.
Malhi was facing was a departmental inquiry and had to join investigation in Jalandhar while Kumar was to go to Kapurthala to attend a three-day course on pistol firing.
After they reached Jalandhar, Malhi and Kumar went to the radio station to hand over keys of car to Malhi’s wife deployed there as is a head constable.
Malhi went to washroom after handing over his service pistol to Kumar and returned in a few minutes. Then, Kumar expressed wish to go to the washroom but did not return the pistol. He fired on his temple and died on the spot.

{{/usCountry}}Senior police officials, including ADCP-II Harpreet Singh Mander, ACP Model Town BIS Kahlon, Hoshiarpur CIA staff in-charge Onkar Singh Brar and others reached the spot and started investigation into the incident.
“We have called the CIA staff and Kumar’s family members to find out the reason behind the extreme step he took,” ADCP-II Harpreet Singh Mander said.
The victim’s body has been sent to the civil hospital for post-mortem examination and a case will be registered after investigation, he added.
