The woman has been identified as Kajal alias Lucky and one of her accomplices as Ramesh Kumar alias Johny. The police recovered 10-gm heroin from Kumar's possession. Later, following Kajal's interrogation, they recovered 50-gm heroin from her house near Lahori gate in Amritsar.

Giving details about the arrest of the accused, inspector Dharampal, station house officer (SHO), Salem Tabri police station, said the police had also arrested one Varinder Singh of Tibba road area and recovered 40-gm heroin from his possession on Tuesday.

During questioning, Singh divulged Kajal's name, following which the police laid a trap near the railway crossing in Salem Tabri on Wednesday. Later, while Kajal was crossing through the area, along with Kumar, she was arrested.

The SHO claimed that the woman confessed that she had got the contraband from an Amritsar resident, and used to smuggle drugs through her aids in different areas of Punjab. The smugglers used to call her “didi” (sister), he added.

According to the SHO, the woman is a widow, and her husband, Anil Kumar, was an employee in the Amritsar municipal corporation.

"Efforts are on to arrest the man, who used to supply drugs to Kajal. The police would unearth the racket very soon," the SHO claimed.
