The Sadar police had registered a case against Ashu, Akhil, Babbu and an unidentified man on September 27.

The police was first reluctant to register a case and did so only at the intervention of a local court.

The family of the girl had approached police commissioner Ram Singh and demanded that the accused be arrested. The police commissioner had marked the case to ADCP 2 AS Puar.

Talking to HT, a member of the girl's family said, "The incident took place in August and the police was first reluctant to register the case. Then we moved court on whose directions the case was registered in September end. Now it's been almost a month and the police have not arrested the accused. We want justice; the police should arrest the accused immediately."

The family also alleged that the accused had political patronage.

Earlier, in her statement to the police, the victim alleged, "The four men abducted me when I had gone out for some work. They made me sit on a motorcycle after brandishing a sharp-edged weapon.

They took me to an empty house, made me swallow some tablets and when I became semi-conscious, they raped me."
