The move was under the project of the Election Commission of India ( ECI) SVEEP (systematic voters' education and electoral participation) programmes aimed at creating awareness among voters.

Talking to HT, a nodal officer of SVEEP programme in the district, Udaideep Singh Sidhu, said the helicopter would fly in the district on April 28 and it would cover Sirhind, Khamano, Mandi Gobindgarh and Fatehgarh Sahib.

He further said that it would be controlled by a remote and it would start at 12 noon and the air dropping would continue for two hours continuously.

The aim of air-dropping pamphlets would be to get maximum turnout of voters and the local administration had already erected many hoardings in the city to make the voters aware.

" It will be one of the methods to motivate the voters so that the prevailing democracy could be strengthened," added Sidhu.

Deputy commissioner Arun Sekhri said that 64,000 pamphlets would be dropped in different areas of the district. It would cover maximum voters in minimum time.
