Counselling for both the general and reserved categories of outstation candidates was conducted first. Seats at various colleges, including SD College, Sector 32, DAV College-10, MCM DAV College-36, PG Government College-11, Government College for Commerce and Business Administration-42 were filled within a couple of hours. The first was SD College-32 where all 36 seats under the quota were filled within minutes, followed by DAV College-10.

Varsity officials sparked an outcry among students by asking them to submit their original academic documents before finalising admissions. Dhriti, who had come from Dehradun, said: “It is unfair on their part to demand original documents because if we do so we won’t be able to apply for admission elsewhere.”

After a heated debate the admissions coordinator, RK Gupta, eased this requirement and announced students could instead give an undertaking to submit original academic certificates within five days after securing admission in any college. “The issue was resolved after it was brought to our notice,” he said.

Nilya, another local student, said: My name figures in three categories — ‘general UT rank’, ‘backward class’ and ‘single girl child’, but I don’t know under which of them I’ll be given a seat. The officials involved haven’t made anything clear.”
