Inspector Satinder Pal Singh, the station house officer of Basti Haibowal police station, said Dayawanti had filed a complaint on May 31 that her children had been kidnapped by Surjit and Pushpa. While the girl is a student of class 9, her brother is in class 2.
The police started an investigation into the matter and tried to locate the couple. "The couple was moving from place to place to avoid being detected by the police," additional deputy commissioner city-3 Joginder Singh, said at a press conference here on Saturday. "They travelled to Jalandhar, Talwara and Taran Tarn with the children. Eventually, they were traced through their mobile phone number."
"The accused have admitted that they were trying to sell the girl and wanted to push the boy into labour," said inspector Satinder.
