CPM leader thrashed; 12 booked

Twelve goons attacked CPM, Raikot, secretary Santokh Gill after trespassing into his house at Sudhar near here on Saturday night. The accused thrashed him brutally and fled. Gill suffered two fractures in his right leg and injuries on other parts of his body.

Twelve goons attacked CPM, Raikot, secretary Santokh Gill after trespassing into his house at Sudhar near here on Saturday night. The accused thrashed him brutally and fled.

Gill suffered two fractures in his right leg and injuries on other parts of his body.

Gill, who is admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said the accused had thrashed some of the shopkeepers of Sudhar on September 2 and he was helping the victims.

Gill added that the police were reluctant to arrest the accused. When he reached his house on Saturday, the accused had attacked him and thrashed him with iron rods. One of the accused had also flashed gun at him and threatened to kill him. When his wife raised the alarm, the accused fled.

On the other hand, shopkeepers closed their shops against hooliganism and demanded arrest of the accused. Residents said if the police fail to arrest accused till September 9, they would launch an agitation.

The accused have been identified as Talwinder Singh alias Nikku of Sudhar, Harpreet Happy, Gurmeet Kaur, Daljit Kaur and their unidentified accomplices.The police have nabbed some of the accused.

Sub-Inspector Nirmal Singh said the police have launched a manhunt to the arrest the accused.
