She was addressing a meeting of district officials with representatives of arhatiya associations on Friday to review wheat procurement arrangements in grain markets.

Arhatiya association leaders Om Parkash Behl and Amarjeet Singh Dhappai raised the issue of shortage of facilities in local mandis.

"There is no arrangement of toilets and bathrooms in mandis for farmers who come to sell their produce. Sewerage always remains choked. At certain places, there is no shelter for farmers and there is shortage of potable drinking water also," they said.

Behl told the DC about the "poor quality" of bags supplied to arhatiyas to fill the produce. "We face difficulties in filling wheat in these bags. Earlier too, so many times, we complained to district officials about this but to no avail," he said.

"At the local new grain market, certain ant-social activists are also active and they need to be tackled through deployment of PCR staff for the security of arhatiyas and farmers," Behl further added.

Additional DC Gurmail Singh, district food and supplies controller Rajnish Kaur and heads of all procurement and storing agencies were present in the meeting.
