Senior officials of procurement agencies and the district food and civil supplies controller, Rajnish Kaur, accompanied the DC.

The DC directed the food and civil supplies department to clear shortage of bardana in grain markets of Uccha Beit and Fattu Dhinga.

"More gunny bags were arranged and distributed to agents. Procurement work at these two places had been stalled, but it has restarted today," Mangat said.

"At the Fattu Dhinga grain market, the lifting was a little slow, especially by Pungrain. Directions have been issued to officials concerned to speed-up the process as inclement weather is forecast."

"Nearly 80 percent of the wheat has arrived in grain markets and more than 60 percent procurement has been completed," he said.

In the 42 grain markets of Kapurthala, 2.23 lakh tonne of wheat has been procured till April 23. More than Rs 207 crore have been disbursed to farmers.

At Sultanpur Lodhi, the DC ordered the repair of a faulty swipe machine.

"By Thursday, technicians from Chandigarh will be here to get the machines in working order. No laxity in procurement will be tolerated," he said.

SDM Sultanpur Lodhi Kuldeep Singh Chandi, DFSC Kapurthala Rajnish Kaur, district mandi officer Rakesh Thapar, DM Markfed Jasbir Singh, DM PUNSUP Jasmeet Singh, DM Punjab Agro Jaswant Singh Ghuman and DM FCI Sanjay Kumar accompanied the DC.
