Six people from Punjab, including three of a family, were killed and 15 others injured in a collision between three vehicles due to heavy smog early Saturday morning in Sirsa district of Haryana.
The victims were travelling from Pathrala village in Bathinda district to Kingre village in Sirsa for cotton-picking when their Tata Ace was crushed between a truck it was trying to overtake and a Volvo bus coming from the opposite side near Sawantkhera village in Dabwali, said police.
The deceased have been identified as Gurdev Singh, 60, his wife Surjeet Kaur, 55, sister-in-law Malkiat Kaur, 50, Bhagwan Singh, 43, and Tata Ace driver Raja Singh, 30, all from Phulewala village in Moga district besides a Jhandeana village resident.
The injured include Prem Singh, Charanjeet Kaur, Hardeep Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Saravjeet Kaur, also from Phulewala, and Paramjeet Kaur, Soni, Daljeet Kaur, Sarjeet Singh, Paramjeet Kaur, Veerpal Kaur, Kulwant Singh and Chindarpal from Ghariana village in Ferozepur district.
The mishap took place due to poor visibility, said police. While six people died on the spot, the injured were admitted to hospital with the help of villagers, said police, adding the probe is on.
