A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a speeding train at Lehra Mohbatt near here on Tuesday.

A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a speeding train at Lehra Mohbatt near here on Tuesday.

The victim, identified as Makhan Singh, 42, a resident of Kothaguru village, jumped before the train coming out from Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant at Lehra Mohbatt on Monday evening at about 7:30 pm. In-charge, railway police post, Rampura Phul, ASI, Ranvir Singh said that the victim's brother Sulakhan Singh told the police that the victim was undergoing stress due to debt burden.

He had come to Lehra Mohbatt to purchase medicines on Monday evening when he took the extreme step. Leader of BKU (EKta-Ugrahan) Basant Singh Kothaguru said that the farmer was undergoing stress due to debt to the tune of `4 lakh on him. The body has been handed over to the family after postmortem.
